“زعفران (Crocus sativus L.) در بیماری‌های چشمی: مرور بیانی شواهد موجود از مطالعات کلینیکی “

زعفران (Crocus sativus L.) و ترکیبات اصلی آن، یعنی کروسین و کروکتین، ترکیبات کاروتنوئیدی طبیعی هستند که گزارش شده است که طیف وسیعی از خواص را دارا هستند و تأثیرات ضد التهابی، ضد اکسیداتیو و نورون حفاظتی چندجایگاهی را القا می‌کنند. تعداد فزاینده‌ای از مطالعات تجربی، حیوانی و انسانی به بررسی اثرات و مسیرهای مکانیکی این ترکیبات پرداخته‌اند تا استفاده درمانی بالقوه آن‌ها در بیماری‌های چشمی (مانند تخریب ماکولای وابسته به سن، گلوکوم و ماکولاپاتی دیابتی) را ارزیابی کنند.

این مرور روایتی، یافته‌های کلیدی مطالعات بالینی منتشر شده که اثرات زعفران و/یا ترکیبات آن را در زمینه بیماری‌های چشمی بررسی کرده‌اند، به همراه مروری بر مکانیسم‌های زیرین پیشنهادی که این اثرات را میانجی‌گری می‌کنند، ارائه می‌دهد.

“Saffron (Crocus sativus L.) and its main constituents, i.e., crocin and crocetin, are natural carotenoid compounds, which have been reported to possess a wide spectrum of properties and induce pleiotropic anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative, and neuroprotective effects. An increasing number of experimental, animal, and human studies have investigated the effects and mechanistic pathways of these compounds in order to assess their potential therapeutic use in ocular diseases (e.g., in age related macular degeneration, glaucoma, and diabetic maculopathy).

This narrative review presents the key findings of published clinical studies that examined the effects of saffron and/or its constituents in the context of ocular disease, as well as an overview of the proposed underlying mechanisms mediating these effect”
