پتانسیل درمانی زعفران و اجزای شیمیایی آن در درمان سرطان‌ها و اختلالات قلبی-عروقی

گل زعفران (Crocus sativus L.)، گونه‌ای دارویی مهم از خانواده زنبقیان که گیاه زعفران را تولید می‌کند، نقش موثری در مقابله با اختلالات پاتوژنیک مختلف از جمله سرطان‌ها و بیماری‌های قلبی-عروقی ایفا می‌کند. علاوه بر ویژگی‌های سنتی آن به عنوان رنگ‌دهنده و ایجادکننده عطر، ترکیبات شیمیایی گیاهی مختلف مرتبط با زعفران اکنون مورد مطالعه فشرده قرار گرفته‌اند. بیش از ۳۰۰ ترکیب شیمیایی گیاهی که تنها از خامه‌های زعفران استخراج شده‌اند، به دسته‌های مختلف متابولیت‌های ثانویه مانند کاروتنوئیدها، ترپنوئیدها، فلاونوئیدها و آنتوسیانین‌ها تعلق دارند و کاربردهای درمانی گسترده‌ای دارند.

علاوه بر این، مطالعات داروشناسی ژنومی عصاره‌های زعفران، پتانسیل‌های سازگار با زیست و ضددرد سرطان نویدبخشی را در مقابل خطوط سلولی مقاوم به داروها نشان داده‌اند که تقسیم و تکثیر سلول‌های بدخیم را کاهش می‌دهند.با توجه به ویژگی‌های دارویی متعدد مرتبط با زعفران، مرور حاضر به‌طور صریح نقش محتوای عنصری آن را در پیشگیری و درمان انواع سرطان‌ها و بیماری‌های قلبی‌عروقی مورد بحث قرار می‌دهد.

Crocus sativus L., a medicinally important species of the Iridaceae family which produces the herb saffron, plays an effective role in combating various pathogenic disorders including cancers and cardiovascular diseases. Apart from its conventional colorant and aroma-inducing attributes, various phytochemical compounds associated with saffron are now being intensively studied. More than 300 phytochemical compounds, derived from saffron stigmas alone, belong to various classes of secondary metabolites such as carotenoids, terpenoids, flavonoids, and anthocyanins; and they have immense therapeutic applications.

Furthermore, pharmacogenomic studies of saffron extracts have revealed promising biocompatible and anticancer potentials against various drug-resistant cell lines which reduce cellular division and proliferation of malignant cells. Keeping in view with the numerous pharmacological properties associated with saffron, the present review explicitly discusses the role of its elemental contents in the prevention and treatment of various cancers and cardiovascular ailments.
