Evaluation of a core collection of Crocus sativus L. and Crocus spp. for tolerance to salinity stress

“کشاورزان عمدتاً از آب شیرین برای آبیاری زعفران استفاده می‌کنند، اما افزایش شوری آب، علاوه بر خشکسالی نگران‌کننده و افزایش سطح زیر کشت، به این معنی است که کشت زعفران با چالش‌های قابل توجهی روبرو است. این مطالعه با هدف ارزیابی تحمل به تنش شوری در یک کلکسیون اصلی از زعفران (Crocus sativus L.) و گونه‌های مرتبط کروکوس انجام شد. این تحقیق شامل غربالگری سیستماتیک ژرم پلاسم تحت شرایط شوری کنترل شده برای شناسایی ژنوتیپ‌های متحمل بود. پارامترهای فیزیولوژیکی و مورفولوژیکی برای تعیین مکانیسم‌های پاسخ به تنش نمک ارزیابی شد. یافته‌ها بینش‌های ارزشمندی برای برنامه‌های بهنژادی با هدف توسعه ارقام متحمل به شوری زعفران مناسب برای کشت در اراضی حاشیه‌ای با آبیاری آب شور ارائه می‌دهد.

“The farmers mainly use freshwater for irrigation of saffron, but the increase in the salinity of the water, in addition to the worrying drought and increase in the cultivation area, mean that saffron cultivation faces significant challenges. This study aimed to evaluate the tolerance to salinity stress in a core collection of Crocus sativus L. and related Crocus species. The research involved systematic screening of germplasm under controlled salinity conditions to identify tolerant genotypes. Physiological and morphological parameters were assessed to determine the response mechanisms to salt stress. The findings provide valuable insights for breeding programs aimed at developing salt-tolerant saffron varieties suitable for cultivation in marginal lands with saline water irrigation.”
