From Acapulco to Manila, Culinary Spices to Medical Supplies: Useful Plants Introduced to the Philippines in the Age of the Galleons

“این مطالعه به بررسی معرفی تاریخی گیاهان مفید به فیلیپین در دوران گالیون‌ها می‌پردازد و بر ادویه‌های خوراکی و لوازم پزشکی تمرکز دارد. این پژوهش آتسوئته را به عنوان یکی از چهار آزافرین (زعفران‌ها) شناسایی می‌کند: زعفران (از کلاله و خامه)، زردچوبه (از ریزوم) و سایر گیاهانی که تا حدی و برای همان اهداف زعفران استفاده می‌شدند که نشان‌دهنده پایه آن‌ها به عنوان منابع پزشکی است. این مقاله تبادل فراآرام‌دانش گیاه‌شناسی و مواد را از طریق مسیر تجاری گالیون مانیلا-آکاپولکو ردیابی می‌کند و نحوه ادغام این گیاهان در شیوه‌های درمانی سنتی فیلیپینی و آشپزی را برجسته می‌کند.”

“This study examines the historical introduction of useful plants to the Philippines during the Age of the Galleons, focusing on both culinary spices and medical supplies. The research identifies atsuete as one of four azafrins (Saffron’s): saffron (from stigma and styles), turmeric (from rhizomes), and other plants that were used to an extent and for the same purposes as saffron, signalling their basis as medical resources. The paper traces the trans-Pacific exchange of botanical knowledge and materials through the Manila-Acapulco galleon trade route, highlighting how these plants were integrated into traditional Filipino healing practices and cuisine.”
